A sweet tooth satisfier that wont sabotage your weight loss goals

Fruit for dessert? This common dieting suggestion is usually met with a groan. On a day you have especially strong willpower, fruit for dessert is a great option, but everyone knows fruit is not always enough to satisfy a powerful sweet tooth. Or is it? Oranges, simple syrup, walnuts? Could such simple ingredients come together to create a satisfying dessert? Absolutely!

This recipe combines dipped oranges with a sweet simple syrup and crunchy walnuts. Oranges and walnuts are a great combination because they are healthy and taste great together. Mixing the combination with simple syrup makes for a sweet, healthy dessert that is sure to leave you feeling satisfied. Best of all, this sweet treat is healthy. You can enjoy every bite knowing it is low in cholesterol and sodium, as well as a good source of dietary fiber and vitamin C. Vitamin C is a powerhouse when it comes to keep you healthy. Not only can it ward off the common cold, there is evidence it can reduce a person’s risk for serious medical conditions.

Oranges and other citrus fruit are special because their peak harvest season occurs during the winter months. Unlike other fruits and veggies that ripen in the summer and fall, these juicy foods taste the best from about December to February. They are also at their most affordable during this time.

Enjoy this sweet and savory recipe for blood oranges in simple syrup, accented with walnuts.
