Let the crock pot cook your sweet potatoes to perfection.
This healthy crock pot baked sweet potatoes recipe combines two of our favorite things. We love fresh sweet potatoes for their sweet, creamy flavor and superfood qualities. And we are absolutely devoted to our slow cookers! They make life easier and give food a tender, scrumptious texture with an almost foolproof method that doesn’t take constant managing.
What makes sweet potatoes such a potent superfood? These root vegetables are loaded with vitamin A, which is essential to healthy vision and is a key player in boosting the immune system.
They also contain carotenoids, which contribute to the orange pigment of the sweet potato, and are rich in antioxidants, which have anti-inflammatory properties. Sweet potatoes also pack a whopping dose of fiber. Unlike regular white potatoes, they are rich in nutrients and are a healthier and more complex carbohydrate.
Top Reasons to Make Crock Pot Baked Sweet Potatoes
While we enjoy our sweet potatoes prepared in a variety of ways, we are very partial to this incredibly easy sweet potato recipe that calls for the use of the slow cooker. Slow cookers allow you to add your ingredients, set your timer, and go about your day.
As they cook, over the course of many hours on low heat, your food will take on a tender texture that is only achieved through slow cooking. These sweet potatoes will come out of the slow cooker tender to the fork, with the flesh coming apart easily and melting in your mouth for a delicious addition to your weeknight dinners.
This method also allows you to clear out important oven space during a big Thanksgiving dinner, making it a perfect side dish to bring and plugin so you can then spend more time with family and less time in the kitchen.

What size of crock pot should be used?
Nicole, A 6 quart is perfect but a 5 or 7 work too. 🙂
Is it possible to cook in crockpot on high. If so how long
Thanks
Yes, you can cook on high for about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours.
You did not mention anything about adding water to the crock pot sweet potatoes, do you add water?
Toni, No water needed. 🙂
Can do with out foil??
Katie, You can, but it’s less messy and works better with foil because the heat isn’t escaping from inside the potato. 🙂
I do this without using the oil. Just clean the potatoes, wrap them and out them in the slow cooker. They come out great! I always cook a few extra to take for lunch at work during the week.
Making extra is a great tip, Laura. Thanks for sharing!
I use slowcooker liner in my crock pot, is that ok?
Theresa, We prefer not to use liner but it’s really a personal preference. 🙂
What other toppings can you use besides butter and sugar? Thank you.
Dried fruit, honey, and maple syrup are all delicious options! You can also try more savory toppings such as plain Greek yogurt or ginger.
