Healthy Popcorn Recipes

Indulge without adding an inch to your waistline.

A sweet treat for your next autumn movie night!

What do you snack on in a dark movie theater, while catching the latest blockbuster? What do you and the kids prepare before a night in front of the TV? Popcorn! This salty, crunchy snack may seem like an indulgence, but if you skip the microwaveable variety with the additives and butter substitutes, you can serve up a truly healthy, fiber-rich, low calorie snack! Pop your popcorn on the stove to cut down on fat and calories.

Simply add three tablespoons of canola oil to a pan, turn the stove to medium heat, and add two kernels of popping corn. When those kernels are warm enough to pop, add the amount of kernels you like, and cover with a lid. Shake the pan lightly while the popcorn pops, and when you hear the popping stop, turn off the heat. Wait a few minutes, and remove the lid to serve your popcorn, using one of our favorite popcorn recipes.

1. For the classic butter and salt flavor, use a small amount of unsalted, organic butter or coconut oil. Sprinkle with sea salt.

2. Replicate a cheesy flavor with nutritional yeast. Combine a small amount of butter or coconut oil and sea salt, and sprinkle in nutritional yeast until you achieve the taste you like. Nutritional yeast is used by vegans as a substitute for cheese, and features a high count of B vitamins.

3. Love a warm, sweet and spicy cinnamon bun? Duplicate that great taste by mixing coconut oil, vanilla extract, raw honey, and unsweetened cocoa powder together with cinnamon, and drizzle over your popcorn.

4. If you love all things pumpkin, mix with a small amount of butter, maple syrup, and pumpkin pie spice for a festive treat.

Gather the family together for movie night and try one, or a few, of these popcorn recipes! Everyone will find a favorite, and will look forward to this healthy snack on a regular basis!

  1. Make sure to pick the right pan to do this, I've been making popcorn this way for…a really long time 😉
Use a well seasoned cast iron chicken fryer or aluminum pan. Stainless steel will stick, unless there is a non stick coating on it.
Cover just the bottom of the pan with one layer of oil and put the lid on. Turn off the heat when the popping is more than 1 second between "pops". Wait a minute before you take off the lid. I have had the best luck with gas stoves.

Thanks you for the recipes! They sound delicious, and most of them are ones I haven't tried yet!
