Slow cookers are fantastic kitchen appliances. Many people have had them handed down to them like a treasured family heirloom. But if you’ve never owned one before, cleaning a slow cooker can be a bit of a mystery. One of the top ways to clean that burnt on grime from your favorite slow cooker… add a squirt of dish liquid, fill your slow cooker with water, cover and turn to low for 2-3 hours. Wipe away the grime!

  1. I need to know how to clean the sleeve with the elements.  Lots of times the slow cooker till "burp" out the sides when it's cooking and the liquid in these burps will stain the outsides and insides of the sleeve.

  2. I am with Anne.  Cleaning the outside piece is much more difficult than the insert.  Any suggestions?  My slow cookers all look very "loved". 🙂

    1. Kim, I mix a little baking soda with water…1 cup water with 1 tablespoon soda and clean with a soft scrub sponge.

  3. I've had amazing results by using baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Make a thin paste (think pancake batter) and smear wherever there are stains. The longer it sets the better the results! I've left mine overnight. This also works on pots & pans, cookie sheets with stains. Good luck!
