Ingredients

  • 2 cups baby spinach loosely packed, organic
  • 1 teaspoon ginger root fresh, minced
  • 1 banana frozen, pre-sliced
  • 1 mango small
  • 1/2 cup beet juice (beets originate in the Mediterranean)
  • 1/2 cup skim milk or unsweetened almond milk
  • 6 ice cubes

Instructions

  • Toss all the above ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Notes

You can purchase beets in a can which have beet juice already. I prefer to make my own. Wash fresh beets, pat dry, preheat the oven to 375 degrees, rub the outside of the beets with a little olive oil, wrap them in foil, and roast for 50 – 60 minutes or until tender. Allow the beets to cool at room temperature and peel. Add one beet to a smoothie, and you’ve got one healthy drink!

  3. Or you can get fresh beets and a juicer and make your own nutritious beet juice. It is amazing how much juice comes out of one ugly beet!!!!!!

  4. This Mediterranean smoothie makes 2 servings, so does that mean we only eat 1/2 the recipe when doing the flush away the fat eating plan? THanks!

  5. I have a huge intolerance to beets- any other type of vegetable juice with the same nutrients I can substitute?

    1. Casey, What about golden beets? If not, any other root veggie is fine. Carrots are a great choice.
