Simple Homemade Peanut Butter

Homemade peanut butter is easy to make and is superior to any store-bought brand in taste and health.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups peanuts shelled, raw
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350F degrees.
  • Spread the peanuts on a baking sheet and roast for about 20 minutes, stirring half way through to make sure they do not BURN (don't worry I've burnt them many times also). Once the nuts are done roasting, let them cool for about 10 minutes. You can then easily slip off the skins, but I find that they do not really make a difference in taste or texture, so you can leave them on.
  • Next, add the peanuts to a food processor or a high-speed blender with a plunger attachment. Sprinkle in the salt and process for about 5-10 minutes, scraping the sides as necessary. You can tell when the peanuts have turned to butter, they will release their oil and become really smooth and creamy. If you are using a high-speed blender, use the frozen dessert setting while pushing the peanuts down into the blades with the plunger, this only took about 1 minute for mine to finish. Once your nut butter is done, keep it in a glass jar in the refrigerator. Enjoy!

  1. This is great thanks! Do you know what are the difference in calories/fat and how long will it last in the fridge?

    1. Dene, When you make your own pb, you decide what ingredients to use. Regular pb has lots of refined sugar and other not so healthy ingredients.

    1. Paula, 29 mg is low. However, I would recommend would recommend leaving out the salt…taste yummy with or without! 🙂

  2. wow this sounds super easy! I usually get mine from the local co-op or whole foods market where the machine processes the nuts for me and is kind of pricey. So I can't wait to make this at home!

  3. I made a batch of this today, and it is so much better than store bought. I like that there's no added sugar and can control the sodium in it. It was a pain getting it all scraped out of the food processor and into the jar, and squeezing the peanuts out of the skin. But it was all well worth it!

  4. How much of the peanut butter are we to consume for the 3 day detox? Also it’s kind of late for me to make this, so how much of the regular peanut butter do I use? Celery?

    1. Andrea, I would recommend a “natural” peanut butter which has only peanuts and a little salt. No more than 1 tablespoon.
