Skinny Ms. Challenges Women to ‘Alcohol-Free April’

You don't need alcohol to have a good time!

Skinny Ms. in partnership with National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (NCADD) is challenging women nationwide to go “alcohol free” and abstain from drinking alcoholic beverages for 30-days during Alcohol Awareness Month in April to demonstrate that alcohol isn’t necessary to have a good time. Skinny Ms. is dedicated to living a healthy and a toxin-free lifestyle.

The mission of this challenge is to spearhead a national grassroots campaign to highlight the critical public health issue of alcoholism and it’s impact on the individual, family and community, while highlighting resources available to help. This movement is designed to effectively raise awareness on the issues that surround drinking, such as binge drinking, drinking and driving, and the poor effects they have on one’s health.

NCADD Alcohol Awareness Month, founded by and sponsored by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (NCADD) since 1987, is observed by communities throughout the United States and is a national grassroots effort to support prevention, research, education, intervention, treatment and recovery for alcoholism and alcohol-related problems. 1. amen! I've been alcohol free for almost fifteen years. I can vouch for the fact that you don't need alcohol to have fun. I'm just as much a free spirit – bopping around and having fun – and feel great one day after the next. Go for it!

    1. Congratulations!!! Please pass this challenge to all you know. You never know you might stop drinking because of this challenge. Thanks so much!

  2. Just shared this on my page! I feel this is such an important topic and I'm happy to know that there's a month set aside for it. It needs to be talked about more. It is just as toxic as cancer. Thank you, Skinny Ms!!

  3. I've been alcohol free for a little over 30 days, and have to say, it is amazing the changes I am seeing in my body! Not to mention, I feel amazing!

  4. I accept your challenge!  I have become a beer connoisser and really enjoy the experience of flavors, aromas, and food pairings that come with a high quality well crafted beer.  And while I do not think a drink a day is a bad thing, I do think that I need a reminder that it is not a necessity.  Thank you.

  5. Neither myself nor my husband drink and although it does challenge our social engagements at times (we live in Taiwan and most foreigners here hang out at bars), we both feel strong about not having it.  It's hard on the body, it's expensive, and really it doesn't even taste that good! Alcohol generally makes people feel pretty lousy and it aggravates the liver.  I'm delighted to share in a cause that inspires people to make healthy choices each day.  Thank you!

    1. Sabrina, Smart lady! Too bad there are not better places to hang out. Hey, maybe work on coming up with some alternatives?? What do you think?

  6. I am coming up on 2 years of sobriety. I have never felt better or had more fun!! This journey is awesome and I wouldn't trade it for nothing!

    1. Congratulations!!! WOW…2 years is impressive. I know you're journey will continue to be successful!

  7. My friend and I have been using workouts from your website for about 5 weeks now and just started the total body transformation this week and we are going to do the alcohol free April challenge!

    1. Hi Joan,

I feel honored! Please keep me posted your progress and be sure to take before & after pics. 🙂

  8. I have not had alcohol since August 1986.  This is by the Grace of God.  I thought raising 3 sons in an alcohol/drug free environment would "protect" them.  It did not, I have one son who is now close to one year clean and sober.  Looking back it may have been hard for me to stop drinking at 23, but so much harder to walk with your child through this disease, treatment, and recovery.

  9. I very rarely drink especially since I began running. Having family members and friends with alcohol abuse issues I am in full support of this challenge!

  10. Ashley, I totally agree! You are so welcome. This challenge is one that we are happy to connected with. Thanks.

  11. Woo Hoo!! Haven't had a drink since January!!! Feeling so good! Wish my family and friends understood what this means to me!

  12. What a great idea!  I dont drink very often but when i do I end up feeling awful for days-its screws up my sleep, my eating, my metabolism…its all bad news.  I had already decided to give it up til my Tough Mudder was over in May, but maybe i'll try to go a little longer-this is a great reason to!  I have several family members in all stages of alcoholism…from grandfathers that never gave it up, to uncles that are 25 years sober, to uncles that are starting to see what their drinking is doing to their body and relationships but still keep going.  Eating/drinking clean is really important, so maybe i'll make this a half april/all of may challenge for myself!
