If I triple this to keep on hand, how much do I measure out per one pound of
Beef for tacos?
Ty, I use 1 tablespoon for a pound of ground meat. If using more than one pound, increase by 1 teaspoon for every additional pound.
My family loves tacos, this seasoning recipe ROCKS!
How much water to I add to 1lb of meat and taco seasoning
Gail, Around 1/3 cup is good.
Could you use cumin in powder form, instead of seeds? If so, how much? Thanks!
Yes, you can, just use 3/4 of the amount you would for fresh seeds.
I use this taco seasoning fairly regularly (grilled sandwiches, soup, chicken, etc.), and it's really good, I make a triple batch and seal it in a mason jar with my Foodsaver. We're not sodium reduced, but we just don't use a lot of salt. This works great and is cheaper and has less 'stuff' in it than packaged taco seasoning.
Am I suppose to toast the cumin seed and grind them or do I add them to the other ingredients whole? Thank you for posting!
Calmag, You can use the ground cumin you buy in the store. To get a stronger cumin flavor, you can toast them in a dry skillet on the stovetop over medium heat, stirring the whole time, for about 3 minutes until just fragrant but not burnt. Then you would grind them in a spice/coffee grinder.
I know this may sound dumb, but how do I use the seasoning? For example, using ground turkey do I add the seasoning and some water? If so, how much water is recommended?
Your question is not dumb at all. 🙂 We add the seasoning after we brown the turkey with a little water. You can also add this seasoning to soups and stews before heating.
Thank you for this recipe!! Awesome way to reduce sodium!
You’re very welcome, Kim! Glad you enjoy!
So easy and delicious! I do not buy taco seasoning packets anymore.
Thanks for sharing! 😉
Sonja, You are so welcome. Homemade is a good choice. 🙂
