Ginger Martini

Ingredients

For the martini:

  • 3 ounces vodka or gin 3 shot glasses full
  • 1/2 to 1 ounce ginger syrup recipe follows
  • 1/2 teaspoon lime juice freshly squeezed
  • ice

For the ginger syrup:

  • 4 inches ginger root finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup agave nectar or 1/4 cup coconut palm sugar or sucanat

Instructions

To make the ginger syrup:

  • Chop the ginger root, peel on, in the food processor or by hand.
  • Bring the sweetener, ginger, and water to a boil over medium heat, stirring and pressing on the ginger pieces to release the juice. Once a syrupy consistency is reached, after about 5 to 10 minutes, remove from the heat and allow it to cool in another container.

To make the martini:

  • Shake vodka, ice, and ¼ cup syrup in a cocktail shaker or in a closed container with a lid for about 30 seconds or until the drink is cold. Pour through a cocktail strainer or other fine mesh strainer (to catch the ice and ginger pieces) and into a martini glass, and serve. Ginger Martini can be served with a slice of lime on the edge of the glass or in the drink.
