Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks
These healthy air fryer mozzarella sticks taste every bit as good as a restaurant's, but they're much healthier!
Servings: 8 people
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 cup whole-wheat panko breadcrumbs
- 8 low-fat mozzarella sticks
- avocado oil cooking spray
In a shallow bowl, beat the egg with one teaspoon of water and set aside.
In a second bowl, combine the Italian seasoning, garlic salt, and panko breadcrumbs.
Working with one mozzarella stick at a time, dip the cheese into the egg before transferring it to the seasoned breadcrumbs. Press the cheese firmly into the breadcrumbs to ensure they adhere. Transfer the breaded cheese to a wax paper-lined baking sheet and continue breading.
When all the mozzarella sticks are breaded, freeze them for 30 minutes to an hour.
Repeat the process, dipping each mozzarella stick into the egg before pressing it into the breadcrumbs. Freeze for another 30 minutes to an hour.
Preheat the air fryer to 390 degrees Fahrenheit.
Spray the frozen mozzarella sticks with the avocado oil cooking spray and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, until they’re golden brown and melted inside. You may have to cook the mozzarella sticks in two batches, depending on the size of your air fryer.
