Morning Stretch to Help You Get Up and Go

Ease into the morning!

Yoga Poses to Zen Out Your Body

For many of us, getting out of bed can be quite the challenge. However, having a way to gently slide into the day can make mornings proceed much more smoothly. Stretching helps loosen muscles and revitalize your system. Try this morning stretch routine to ease into the day.

These five stretches help decompress muscles down your back, arms, and chest, and lubricate joints for ease of movement. Repeat the routine every morning to improve your flexibility. Additionally, you can use this routine to stretch and energize at any point of the day. Try it at work or during commercial breaks.

1. Palm Tree Pose

Interlock your fingers and raise your hands above your head with your palms facing up. To get a proper back and shoulder stretch, focus on standing tall, stretching up to decompress muscles.

2. Overhead Tricep Stretch

Raise your elbow over your head and pull back with your opposite hand to stretch your tricep. Hold for 20 to 30 seconds and repeat on the other arm.

3. Standing Forward Bend

This stretch will engage more of your body. The forward bend stretches the back of your legs, your back, shoulders, and neck. Bend at the waist reaching to grab onto your legs, wherever it is comfortable. Let your head hang loose and gravity will do all the work.

4. Seated Spinal Twist

If you suffer from back aches, this might be the most helpful pose in the morning. The twist will help align your spine. Hold the pose for 20 to 30 seconds and repeat on the other side.

5. Cat Cow Pose

You should already be feeling quite energized. To finish things up, do the more dynamic cat cow pose. Curve your spine up, then down. This will loosen your back and lubricate joints.

Use these five stretches every morning to loosen muscles and energize your body. When you’ve completed the routine, you should feel more awake and ready to tackle on the day!
