This 5-minute heart-pumping, fat-blasting cardio workout makes a great addition to your regular weightlifting or yoga routine. With five simple moves you can perform almost anywhere, it’s a quick cardio workout that will boost your metabolism even after you leave the gym.
This workout follows the Tabata style of training. Tabata workouts use intervals to elevate your heart rate. You perform an exercise for 20 seconds, then rest for 10. The short breaks keep you from burning out, but doesn’t give your body enough time to cool down. As a result, you’re able to work out in a more efficient manner. Tabata has been linked to raised metabolic rated for up to 24 hours after a workout. This means you continue to burn calories even after you’ve left the gym!
Equipment Needed: A set of medium dumbbells (8-10 lb.), and a gym timer (Gymboss is a free-to-download timer app)
What to do: Perform each exercise for 20 seconds, then rest for 10. Do two sets of each exercise before moving on to the next.
Beginner: 1 round
Intermediate: 2 rounds
