5 Ways to Measure Fat Loss

You’ve been working out and watching what you eat, but the scale isn’t budging. Even if you aren’t seeing a huge difference in your weight, don’t despair. You could still be making progress in the right direction. Here are 5 ways to measure fat loss:

1. The way your clothes fit. Most fitness experts agree that the number one weight loss indicator is how your clothes are fitting. If they aren’t getting any looser, you may want to adjust your exercise routine and/or your eating habits. Need some advice? 2. Try a skin-fold caliper. Yep, this is the same tool that you may have seen in gym class or sports practice growing up. It’s actually an effective tool for helping calculate your BMI (body mass index) number. You can find basic models on Amazon for as little as $7. Using the skin-fold caliper every few weeks and recording the results should give you a good idea of whether you’re losing fat.

3. Use the BMI scale. Speaking of BMI, the BMI scale or calculator is a chart that can help you understand how much body fat you have, based on your weight and height. Learn more about BMI here.

4. Measure. Keep track of your waist and hip measurements using a fabric measuring tape. To measure your waist, start at your navel and go around horizontally. To measure your hips, place the measuring tape around the fullest part of your hips. If the numbers are going down, you’re doing great!

5. Look in the mirror. Do you look different? Do you like what you see? Then keep it up!
