8 Ways to Welcome Spring With Your Dog

Make the most of the season with your furry friend!

The warmer temperatures and longer days of spring are the perfect excuse to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors! Not only is it a great way to spend quality time with your dog, but it’s excellent exercise for the both of you. Here are 8 spring dog ideas to welcome the season with man’s best friend.

Visit a Park.

Spring is the perfect time of year to explore a new part of your area. DogFriendly.com has a wonderful list of parks in each state that accommodate our furry friends. Grab your camera and capture the cuteness as you and your buddy roll in the grass or hike the hills.

Take a Swim.

Hit the beach, river or lake for some splash time! Swimming is great exercise for dogs, and it’s easy on the joints for humans.

Run Through the Sprinklers.

Not much in this world rivals the cuteness of a dog romping through the sprinklers on a sunny spring day. You can buy a cheap sprinkler head to hook up to your hose for just a few dollars at any home improvement store.

Hit the Road.

Dogs love exploring new things. Load up your pal in the car and go for a ride to another town or beyond.

Camp Out.

Many campgrounds are canine friendly. Pitch a tent and get cozy with a good book and some roasted marshmallows. Just be sure to follow the campground’s leash rules and have an ID tag on your dog’s collar at all times.

Visit a Farmer’s Market.

If your dog is fond of people (and other dogs), he’ll love the sights, sounds and smells of the local farmer’s market. You’ll support local businesses and score some yummy treats to take home for the two of you.

Get Schooled.

Your dog knows the basics, like ‘sit’ and stay,’ but it could be fun to take his training to the next level. Enroll Fido for some agility training with your local AKC chapter, or complete the coursework for Canine Good Citizen recognition.

Volunteer.

Nothing beats the feeling of giving back. If you have a mild-mannered pooch, offer to bring him to visit kids at the local hospital or women’s shelter. They’ll go gaga over the puppy kisses, and your dog’s tail will be wagging from all the newfound attention.
