Can Household Cleaners Make You Sick?

Household cleaners could be making you sick without you actually knowing.  Between all-purpose cleaners and your furniture polish, there’s a likelihood that the products you use to clean can do more harm than good.

Air fresheners and other products that boast a fresh smell contain chemicals that have been shown to result in hormonal abnormalities.  Alternative: Boil water with a natural oil additive or bake some skinny cookies to get your home smelling great.

Chemical fertilizers and insecticides can cause kidney damage and hurt the environment around them.  Alternative: Use a compost pile for your fertilizer or consider adding some coffee grounds for a natural alternative. Organic pest controls are an available alternative.  Use of these products are readily available on the internet.

Bleaching agents can be very dangerous and can irritate your skin and eyes. They can also throw off your respiratory function.  Alternative: Hydrogen peroxide and lemon juice will do the trick!

Toilet bowl cleaners often contain toxic bleaching agents.  Alternative: A mixture of baking soda and vinegar can clean your toilet without the toxin backlash.
