When I met my husband, his workout consisted of 15 minutes on the Stairmaster a couple of times a week, and that was it. Fast forward four years, and he had lost 50 pounds, and we were training for the Chicago Marathon. What happened? It was me! Or should I say us!
Although, I can’t take all the credit for his achievements, our relationship has had a motivating effect on both our workout routines. Over the years, we’ve tried a lot of different workouts together – some winners and some pretty darn funny:
Step class – Thinking about going to step class with my husband always makes me chuckle. He was the only guy in class, and the instructor would constantly say things like – “shake it girls”. He was such a good sport.
Kickboxing – Not my favorite – the instructor was brutal, but it was a great workout. I don’t think I would have gone on my own.
Kayaking – We went kayaking for the first time during our honeymoon, and we even managed to somehow tip over the two-person kayak – oh teamwork at its best. We’ve improved quite a bit since then.
Running – This is our favorite workout together. Although, he is now much faster than me, we start and meet up afterwards to stretch.
What fun workouts do you do with your significant other? Maybe something like this couple’s workout? I’m not sure I could talk my husband into all these exercises.
