You’ve trained your body to perfection. You’ve run 5k and 10k races and you’re looking for a a new challenge. These obstacle course races were created to let you test your grit. Filled with fun, obstacles, mud, and friends, these insane races will put all of your hard work to use.
1. Jurassic Classic Mad Run
Located in Southern California, the Jurassic Classic thrives off their mud pits. A 5k seems like an easy task, but add in walls, cargo nets, muddy hills, and mud pits that slow you down, and your legs will be burning just one mile in. There are two individual waves, a team wave, so you and 3 other friends can support each other, and a kids wave, so they don’t miss out on the fun. 2. Udder Mud Run
The Udder Mud Run, is another mud focused run. The larger course is a 7k endurance test with over 20 obstacles to push your body and mind through each challenge and cross the line as a true champion. The smaller course is a one mile run, more focused on friend and family bonding. The Udder Mud Run is created as a fundraiser to support the Georgia FFA–FCCLA Center which focuses on various camps for young adults to become future leaders in their community.
3. The Fugitive Run
Located in Missouri, The Fugitive Run is designed by military and SWAT teams to push every ounce of sweat out of you. 100 obstacles in 4 miles is a trust test of character and dedication and will give your muscles little to no time to rest. 4. Gritty Goddess
Gritty Goddess is an all-women, no holds barred 5k race designed for all women regardless of age or fitness level. Of course, training prior to the race helps, but with signs before each obstacle, designating the degree of difficulty, from “easy breezy, I got this” to “holy grit” let you know what you can expect. There are 23 waves, each named after a Goddess and representing key aspects of life. From beauty, growth, life, and rebirth, and finally “My Muddy Valentine”, which allows males to join in on a couple run. Gritty Goddess also partners with the Girls on The Run charity, which teaches girls and women the importance of skills and empowerment. Gritty Goddess is located in Texas.
5. Dirty Girl
Dirty Girl is a nationwide run which gives you more options to challenge yourself locally. Unlike most events, Dirty Girl isn’t about timed racing, it’s about having fun, living in the moment and supporting each other, friend or stranger. With fun names like Utopian Tubes and PMS (Pretty Muddy Stuff), you’re sure to laugh every step of the way through the 5k course. For Dirty Girl, life isn’t a competition, it’s a journey with obstacles to maneuver through and enjoy each step of the way.
6. Tough Mudder
Tough Mudder is the premiere obstacle course. With 50 plus events spanning 3 continents, not even a vacation from home can give you an excuse to run away from this challenge. At 10-12 miles, Tough Mudder is one of the largest obstacle course races available. Most importantly, this isn’t a solo course. Teamwork is one of the most important factors in completing this course. Averaging 10 miles, you’ll need all the help you can get. Tough Mudder also donates to the Wounded Warrior Project, which assists injured veterans with assimilation into civilian life.
7. Lozilu Mud Run
Lozilu is another nationwide all-women Mud Run. At 3.1 miles, Lozilu covers 15 different obstacles to test your commitment to the challenge. This run focuses on supporting cancer patients through donations and a wall of hope where you can write positive messages that are delivered to local patients.
