Ditch these foods and start seeing some scale progress!

4. Potatoes

When we’re talking weight loss, white potatoes pose problems in that department. With their high glycemic index, the carb-rich vegetable is digested super quickly by your body, triggering insulin and blood sugar highs and lows. These dramatic fluctuations can leave you feeling hungry soon after eating, and ultimately invite you to consume more calories than necessary.
Opt for sweet potatoes, a richer, more nutritious alternative for white potatoes, while still keeping an eye on portion sizes. Welcome the day with these drool-worthy 5-Ingredient Breakfast Sweet Potatoes, or dive into a delicious bowl of creamy Crock Pot Baked Sweet Potatoes. Yum!
5. White flour

If you want to see numbers drop on the scale, ditch the white bread and boxed mac & cheese. White flour is an overly processed form of wheat flour, meaning the nutritious properties inside wheat flour including fiber and antioxidants are stripped away. Although the ingredient gives countless bread and bakery goods their fluffy texture and pleasant taste, the easy-to-digest flour leaves your metabolism working at a slower level.
Luckily, there are plenty of healthier alternatives out there. Check out 5 Flours to Add to Your Shopping List to begin understanding your options!
6. Alcohol

Calorie-wise, alcohol is not your waistline’s friend. For example, a generous glass of wine can contain as many calories as a slice of cake, and your favorite frozen margarita’s calorie count can clock in to that of a cheeseburger. Calories aside, drinking regularly can invite a sluggish metabolism, as your body rushes to metabolize alcohol as soon as it’s ingested, meaning it puts off metabolizing other fats and sugars efficiently. Giving up alcohol could mean saying goodbye to an unwanted gut!

7. Vegetable Oil

It might contain the term “vegetable” in its name, but that doesn’t make it healthy! Commonly used in baked goods, processed foods, and for cooking, vegetable oils are a surefire weight gain culprit as they contain fat-promoting property known as Omega-6s. This fat stimulates the appetite and turns off fullness signals, while also inviting fat storage. Opt for healthier oils like olive oil or coconut oil to avoid the damaging effects of this food!
