Grilling Season
Warmer weather calls for dusting off the old barbecue and eating some freshly grilled foods! Grilling foods is a traditional method of cooking and is used all around the world for many different cuisines. Cooking on the grill can also be a healthier alternative to other ways of cooking because it requires less added fat to cook and it can help food keep more of their vitamins and minerals.
Why Bourbon?
We used bourbon as the key ingredient in this marinade because it both flavors and tenderizes the meat. Bourbon adds rich, bold flavors– but keep in mind that if the pork is soaked for too long in this marinade, it can take on too much alcoholic flavor. While alcohol cooks off during grilling, the flavor may still remain so try to keep your marinade time to a few hours at the most. Bourbon also works as a tenderizer by breaking down enzymes in the meat, which really adds to the flavor and texture of this dish.
Benefits of Pork
Pork is a high protein meat. It is also high in iron, zinc, and B vitamins. It is one of the richest sources of thiamin, a B vitamin that is responsible for energy generation and cell development. Pork can contain different amounts of fat depending on the cut and trimmings. Try to go for leaner cuts that are lower in saturated fat, including the tenderloin or sirloin, if you are looking to reduce your fat and calorie intake.
