How To Fill In Eyebrows from an Expert: Eyebrow powder and wax

Step 1. Brush and wax

Brush your eyebrows upward with a spool brush to find your natural shape. If needed, you can trim any excess length with brow scissors. Then, apply an eyebrow wax with your finger to hold the brow in place. Marcela recommends using Maybelline New York Brow Drama Pro Eyebrow Palette or Anastasia Brow Primer.

Step 2. Find the arch

Decide where you want the beginning of your brow to start, where the arch will be, and where it will end. The easiest way to find these points is to hold a pencil parallel to the bridge of your nose, hitting the center of your nostril. This will show you where to begin your brow. Then, hold the pencil from your nostril to your pupil to show you where your arch should be. Finally, holding the pencil diagonally outside your nostril and toward the outer corner of your eye will show you where your brow should end.

Step 3. Outline

Outline the top and bottom of your brows with a pencil. Make sure to create a smooth line with no sharp turns! The top and bottom of your arch should be a nice curve rather than a sharp angle. Gently blend these lines with a spool brush.

Step 4. Blend

Use a small angled brush and brow powder to start blending the lines you created. Draw in hair-like strokes to fill in your brows, starting in the middle.

Step 5. Draw the edges

Using a lighter hand, or even a slightly lighter brow powder, draw in the inner and outer edges of your brows. The darkest area of your brows should be the middle or arch. Use light, hair-like strokes to draw in your inner brow to prevent your brows from looking harsh. You can also keep using the spool to blend any lines.

Step 6. Gently brush

anastasia brow gel

Use a brow gel spool and gently brush your brows. This will make your brows look more like real hair while also keeping the hairs in place. You’ll only need to apply a little product. We like Anastasia Clear Brow Gel.

Step 7. Clean the edges

Finish by using a concealer brush and concealer to clean off the edges, if you like.

Recommended Products

Marcela swears by the Anastasia Beverly Hills products to fill in your eyebrows and recommends their Brow Wiz, brow powder, and Mini Duo Brush #7. She also uses BH Cosmetics and Morphe Brushes Brow Palettes.

TIP: Play around with pencils, powders, and  gels to see what you are comfortable with. If you have full brows to begin with, you’ll only need to use a little powder. If you’re blonde, your brows should be a couple of shades darker than your hair color. Brunettes should use a slightly lighter shade than their hair color.
