Lost Your Way, Not Your Weight? 5 Tips to Get Back on Track!

Nobody’s perfect. And to be honest, it’s true that we all have days where we fall off the wagon or just feel like giving up. Some days we eat more fat than we should, indulge in an ice cream sundae with our friends kids or even worse, have a lack of motivation and skip our workouts. It’s ok! At Skinny Ms. we know that long-term weight loss success means that these things are going to happen, and people are all complex individuals with different needs and challenges. We also know that for each person, diet and exercise combinations are going to be different to lose weight. So if you have gotten side-tracked so much that you need to get back on track with your weight loss, diet and exercise don’t despair. Here are 10 effective tips to help get you back on track!

Lost Your Way, Not Your Weight? 5 Tips to Get Back on Track!

Be kind to yourself.

Acknowledging your shortcomings can be a good thing. It can be really easy to beat yourself up when you have a bump in the road, cheat on your diet or don’t get to the gym for a week because you had to work overtime. Don’t let it get you down. Take time to celebrate the success you have had so far, and remember how far you have come!

Try a Short Fast, or Body Cleanse.

Jumpstart your weight loss again and readjust your mind-set with a short fast. Not only will you feel more energized, but you’ll also be reconditioning your mind and taste buds. Food will become nutrients again, not emotional support. A 24 hour fast also gives your digestive system the chance to stop breaking down foods, and the health benefits of that are numerous. Drink fruit and vegetable juices blended together to get bioavailable nutrients, and sip a protein shake twice a day so you don’t starve your muscles. The time that you spend fasting might be just what you need to realign your priorities. If you don’t drink protein shakes, try this SkinnyLicious Protein Smoothie! It’s filled with nutrients, including protein and is packed with antioxidants for a true body cleanse.

Take Time for Motivation.

Make a list of your favorite motivational quotes, and gather a few images from the web of sports heroes, personal mentors and anything else that makes you feel powerful. Remembering why you made the commitment in the first place can help you re-establish your goals. Sometimes the right words from the right person can serve as a reminder of how strong you really are, and light a fire under you again. Music is also a great motivator. Set a New Goal.

Goal setting is an important part of your weight loss. By achieving small and realistic goals, you prove to yourself that you are making progress and that you are capable of reaching your end goal. Believing that you can do it makes taking the steps to achieve what you want more attainable. Goals also provide a focal point and can help you remember that weight loss happens one pound at a time, one step at a time and one workout at a time.

Find Support.

Fitness trainers, professional athletes, models and bodybuilders all have support groups and trainers of their own. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you can achieve everything you want by mere willpower. A good coach, trainer, or support system can push you beyond what you think you can do and also celebrates your success. Without running partners, gym buddies and a weight loss support system, temptations and obstacles can seem out of proportion. You can do one more rep, run one more mile and eat healthy, you just need other people to remind you of how much you are capable of. Never underestimate the power of positivity, and a can-do attitude!

  1. This is just what I needed! I’ve lost 23 pounds and still have 15 pounds to go. With the cold weather and holidays coming up, I just lost my motivation. I am going to try to set a smaller goal (5 pounds instead of 15 pounds) as well as try the 24 hour fast. Thank you for the suggestions!

  2. I always start a weight loss program with a 24 hour fast. It helps me think smaller meals are at least meals!!! Sue
