Scrumptious sliders that are great as a party appetizer or main meal!
If you’re preparing the menu for a summer gathering and want to serve something a little different, we’ve got the perfect recipe for you! There’s no grill required for this easy chicken dish– the slow cooker is all you need! In addition to being super simple to make, our slow cooker chicken shawarma sliders also taste amazing! They feature delightful flavors infused with healthy protein and a creamy, nutritious homemade sauce. The light yet savory flavors found in these sliders make them a great option for enjoying outdoors (but they’re just as good in the air conditioned kitchen, too!)
Bringing Middle Eastern Flavors to Your Backyard
Shawarma is one of the most popular dishes of southern Europe, western Asia, and northern Africa. It is frequently served as a convenient and delicious street food, particularly in Turkey, Egypt, and Pakistan. While it is usually served with lamb, mutton, or chicken, you can make it with veal, turkey, or beef as well. Once it’s coated with the delicious spices of the region, the meat is placed on a slow cooker and rotated consistently. This ensures that the flavors fuse perfectly with the protein.
Naturally Healthy
Shawarma’s fat and calorie levels depend on which meat is used. In the recipe below, we chose boneless, skinless chicken. Chicken will absorb the flavor perfectly without all the extra fat (unlike some of the other protein options). We use omega-3 packed olive oil, low amounts of salt, and a bit of coconut cream to balance out the vibrant spices. When adding our special Greek yogurt sauce, you get a fabulous compliment to the dish without driving up the calorie and fat content. The result is a delicious sandwich that helps dieters stay on track!
Spice Up the Party
Shawarma is all about flavor. And combining pepper, cumin, curry powder, paprika, tahini, and more with boneless chicken creates quite a bit of it! Once the chicken is done, you will balance out the intensity of the spices with our special Greek yogurt sauce. Serve the chicken up on the sliders of your choice, and enjoy!
There will be plenty of backyard summer gatherings with burgers on the grill. Our chicken shawarma sliders recipe will make yours stand out above the rest!
