10 Dietitian-Approved Weight Loss Tips

Meet your weight loss goals faster with these dietitian-approved weight loss tips.

6. Meal Prep For Success

Meal prepping is the best way to keep your fridge stocked with healthy, clean-eating meals. Some people find it helpful to use batch cooking to prepare a week’s worth of meals at once. Others find success in pre-cutting fruits, vegetables, and other meal components so the meal is easy to toss together. No matter which method works for you, make sure you’re setting yourself up for success.

7. Don’t Skip Meals

Especially breakfast! It’s called the most important meal of the day for a good reason because it sets the tone for your eating habits during the rest of the day. Skipping meals is a great way to let your hunger get out of control, causing you to make bad decisions when it comes time to eat. Most dietitians recommend you eat every three to four hours, so make sure you’re prepared. These delicious meal replacement shake recipes are great when you’re short on time.

8. Think About Protein and Fiber

Protein and fiber are crucial components of weight loss. Fiber is a weight-loss powerhouse, and when combined with protein, they both work hard to fill you up without overfilling your waistline. Starting your day with protein is also a great way to get a boost of energy early in the morning. If you’re following a vegetarian or vegan diet, don’t worry: there are plenty of great plant-based proteins to choose from.

9. Don’t Focus Too Much on the Scale

It’s really easy to become obsessed with the number on the scale. When you weigh in too often, you might not see the number drop as quickly as you’d like. Avoid getting frustrated with your progress and try to monitor your weight loss on a weekly basis. Dietitians also recommend that you think outside the scale, measuring your success by how your clothes fit, how you feel after a workout, and if you’re making progress on any other fronts.

10. Eat Lots of Vegetables

Every weight loss plan seems to agree on one thing: eat your vegetables! You can’t go wrong by loading your plate up with lots of greens. They’re not only chock-full of fiber to keep you feeling satiated, but you’ll benefit from their many vitamins and minerals. If you eat your vegetables first, you’ll fill up with the good stuff faster. Don’t be afraid to get creative with how you sneak those greens into your meals, too.
