Feeling tired? Drained? Stressed? Do you need a bit more get-up-and-go? Toxins from the food we eat or our environment may be weighing us down. It might be time to try detoxing body strategies that will help you look better and feel more energetic. The good news is that you don’t need pricey spa treatments or medical procedures to detox. We’ve got 6 body detox techniques to try.

Detoxing the body is a way of purging the toxins and impurities that affect every one of our cells. Our bodies have a natural detoxification system, which is made up of many parts, including the liver, kidneys, intestines, and blood. The challenge is that we live in a modern world that is drenched in man-made substances our bodies just weren’t built to process. Chemicals are everywhere, from the cleanser you use, to clean the kitchen counters, to the microwave lunches you eat at the office.

Modern living makes life stressful too, which can further make the body’s detox system less effective. You might trudge through the day on too little sleep or live with a chronic condition like high blood pressure. We all have responsibilities and challenges, but if we want to have the energy and health to meet them, then it’s important to detox the body by managing stress as well.

Remember that eating healthy foods is an essential part of keeping toxins out of the system from the get-go. Adopt a clean-eating lifestyle that focuses on consuming nourishing, whole foods instead of packaged and overly-processed foods. We promise—it’s easier than you might think.

Detox  techniques, like a Cleanse and Detox Smoothie, are considered safe for most people; however, if you’re pregnant, nursing, have a degenerative disease, diabetes, cancer, or other illness, or take medication, always talk with your doctor before trying any detox program.

1. Detox the kitchen.
The first step in purifying the body for health is to eliminate or reduce the most common toxins from the kitchen and pantry. The top culprits in most homes include refined sugar (which is found in everything from “health food” bars to boxed cereal), chemical additives, saturated fats, and alcohol. Too much caffeine can have a negative impact on the body too, so reduce or eliminate consumption of coffee, caffeinated teas, sodas, and energy drinks. 2. Replace Chemical Based Cleaners.
Food isn’t the only thing that junks up the body with chemicals. Chemical-based cleaners contain harsh ingredients that can be absorbed through the skin. Wear heavy-duty gloves while using them, or evict the harsh chemicals entirely and start using these 5 Easy Homemade Herbal Cleaners.

3. Learn relaxation techniques.
Stress is inevitable, but how you handle it will determine whether you live a life that’s frazzled—or fabulous. Figure out which stress-relief techniques work best for you. For example, try deep breathing exercises or learn meditation. Yoga is an ideal de-stressor that lowers levels of harmful stress hormones. 4. Do a detox plan.
Whether you need to get your new eating plan off on the right foot or simply want to reboot your body, our Three-Day Cleanse and Detox, which includes our cleansing smoothie, may be just what you need. This detox eliminates potential toxins, like sweeteners and caffeine, and focuses on food and beverages that provide cells with maximum nourishment.

5. Get moving.
Exercise improves circulation in the blood as well as the lymph system, which helps rid the body of toxins naturally. Start moving with our Shape Up Size Down Beginner’s Workout or 10-Minute At-Home Fat Blasting Workout.

6. Go for H2O.
Beverages like sodas and sweetened teas contain sugar or chemical sweeteners we weren’t made to process. Give your body and energy level a boost by choosing natural, nourishing water instead. Not a fan of plain-jane water? Check out these Flavored Water Recipes.
