Slow Cooker Sweet Potato Chili

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 sweet onion diced
  • 1 jalapeno seeded and minced
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 sweet potatoes cubed
  • 14 1/2 ounces black beans can
  • 14 1/2 ounces fire-roasted crushed tomatoes can
  • 2 cups chicken broth low-sodium
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder unsweetened

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to the slow cooker, breaking up the ground turkey into bits with a wooden spoon. Mix to combine. Cook on low 6 to 8 hours or high for 3 to 4 hours.
  • If desired, serve with a dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt, and whole-grain tortillas crumbled on top.

  1. We really liked this chili! The fact you can throw it all together in the crock was a big “I want to try this” for me.
    I only changed two things; I added an aditional clove of garlic and used both a purple onion and a sweet yellow onion. Very tasty! You could very lightly taste the cocoa powder, but I believe that one tablespoon was enough. Thanks for the recipe and thanks for reading this ramble!
