BBQ Wings That Pack A Nutrient-Rich Punch

These Orange Honey BBQ Wings are so flavorful and delicious!

This recipe is an excellent way to eat healthy chicken wings while still getting to enjoy awesome, sweet and savory flavor. The homemade orange honey bbq sauce offers some great health benefits as it contains antioxidants that fight cancer, is high in calcium, and has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Chicken wings themselves are an excellent source of protein, as well! Plus, the fact that we bake these wings instead of deep fry them (like traditional recipes) means you consume significantly fewer calories by choosing this tasty recipe.

Customize Your Chicken

These homemade wings are so much better for you than deep fried options.

For this recipe, you can use chicken wings or boneless tenderloins. I prefer chicken wings with bones because they are juicier and have more flavor, but you can use chicken breast tenderloins to reduce fat content if that is a concern. These chicken wings can be made with or without BBQ sauce, too. You can also use the honey bbq sauce as a marinade for things like grilled chicken and even for other meats like pork or salmon.

It’s All About the Sauce

This recipe is a great way to switch up your typical tailgate food.

Since each chicken wing is loaded with flavor from the honey barbecue sauce, you don’t need to bother with dipping sauces. It’s delicious enough as is! That said, feel free to try these Orange Honey BBQ Wings alongside a cooling dip such as our Skinny Ms. Ranch Dip or even this Creamy Scallion and Yogurt Dip.

But what makes these chicken wings really tasty? The fact that they’re slow-cooked for over an hour! This process will provide you with tender wings that are moist on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside. Give this recipe a shot. You will not be disappointed!

Perfection Takes Time

Moist and tender wings cooked at home with healthy ingredients!

Begin by preheating the oven to 400 degrees. Cover the chicken wings with salt and pepper and set them aside. In a saucepan, combine the sauce ingredients together and place over low heat. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for about 10 to 15 minutes, or until thickened. Let it cool and then toss the chicken and the sauce together in a bowl until the chicken is evenly coated.

Lay the wings out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Bake them for 35 to 45 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and the skin turns golden brown. Next, take them out of the oven and turn up the heat to broil for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the chicken skin starts to become crispy. Keep a close eye on chicken wings because they can burn quickly. Finally, remove them from the oven and enjoy!

    1. The Orange Juice is what makes this recipe. You can try a different juice or broth but it won’t be the same recipe.
