Feta Cheese: This ingredient offers a salty, creamy base for the crunchy baked bread crumbs to stick to. And in addition to the distinct tangy flavor and gooey texture that the feta cheese provides, it’s also a great source of protein and calcium. Just make sure you buy a block for this recipe and not crumbles!

Bread Crumbs: We used plain bread crumbs and added our own seasonings (thyme and paprika) but feel free to use any kind of breadcrumbs you’d like. Italian style breadcrumbs would be delicious in this recipe! You can buy it or make your own. Just add an equal amount of dried parsley, basil, and oregano, as well as onion powder, garlic powder, or even black pepper to your bread crumbs. If you opt for whole grain bread crumbs you will get a little more fiber, too! Regardless of which you choose, this ingredient will add the crunchy brown coating to your creamy feta sticks. 

Honey: Savory always needs a sweet companion, which is where honey comes in! Not only does it add to the taste, but honey contains many different vitamins and minerals, and is lower on the glycemic index than other sugary ingredient options. 

Red Chili Flakes: This ingredient is worth highlighting because it rounds out the flavor profile of this baked feta sticks with hot honey dip recipe. You have salty, sweet, and now– spicy! You can use red pepper flakes if that’s what you have or you’d like it to be a little less spicy. 

How to Make Baked Feta Sticks with Hot Honey Dip

You may think that this unique take on cheese sticks would be a bit complicated to make, but it’s actually really simple! 

Begin by preheating the oven to 350° F and lining a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Rinse the block of feta cheese (this will remove any excess salt) and dry it with a paper towel. After that, cut it into approximately twelve 1-inch slices.

Next, you will want to prepare a plate with the breadcrumbs and a plate with the beaten eggs. Add half a teaspoon of dried thyme and half a teaspoon of smoked paprika to the bread crumbs and mix well. You can add other dried herbs or seasonings to fit your preferences, as well. 

Dip the feta cheese slices into the egg first and then into the breadcrumbs, making sure to press and coat all sides evenly, including the ends. Then, lay your breaded chunks on the prepared sheet pan or baking dish and drizzle the cheese with extra virgin olive oil.

Slide the baked feta sticks into the oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Be sure to turn the slices halfway through to get an even crust.

While the feta sticks bake, add the honey to a small saucepan and heat it over a low flame for a few minutes, without reaching a boil. When it reaches a liquid consistency and creates steam, remove it from the heat and add the red chili flakes and half a teaspoon of smoked paprika. Stir well and allow it to cool while the feta sticks finish baking. Finally, drizzle the hot honey dip over your feta sticks right before serving, and enjoy!

Can the baked feta sticks with hot honey dip be made ahead of time?

There are certain steps you can do ahead of time, but we don’t recommend baking them in advance. You can definitely make the hot honey dip beforehand, as much as a day or two prior. You can also prep the feta sticks to the point of being coated with the breadcrumbs, but we don’t recommend doing this more than a few hours in advance to keep the feta from drying out. Just cover them on the sheet pan, slide them in the fridge, and bake when ready!
