We Cleaned Up this St. Patrick’s Day Classic

This simple and festive shake is the perfect green treat for the luckiest of holidays!

St. Patrick’s day means feasting on Irish classics, a Guiness or two (if you’re of age), and lots of green-themed treats, including the popular fast-food Shamrock Shake. And while we all deserve to splurge every now and then, you may not want to consume all those extra calories in one day. For this reason, we’ve taken the classic, artificially-green ice cream treat and turned it into a recipe that is made with fresh, high-protein, whole ingredients that make this healthy shamrock shake naturally green! So, what are some of these healthy ingredients?

Greek Yogurt

We used creamy, vanilla Greek yogurt in this recipe becuase of it’s high protein, low saturated fat qualities that really put a healthy spin on this shake. Greek yogurt is even higher in protein than regular yogurt because of its unique straining procees. This also causes it to be more creamy– making it perfect for this shake! You can still use regular vanilla yogurt, though, or you can even go for coconut or soy yogurt to make this shake vegan.

Avocado and Spinach

Instead of using green food coloring, we naturally colored this shake with creamy avocado, nutrient-rich spinach, and delicious mint (which also packs in the flavor)! These ingredients are high in chlrorophyll, which is responsible for their green color, as well as many health benefits such as immune support and disease prevention. You can’t say that about the drive-thru version!

Mint Leaves

As we mentioned above, we use fresh mint leaves to give this shamrock shake it’s classic mint flavor. Mint leaves offer benefits like supporting healthy digestion and brain function. We also think mint leaves taste way, way better than artificial mint flavor!

And it’s a High Protein Shake

The kids will love this scrumptious, nutritious dessert!

This shake is super high in protein due to its vanilla protein powder and Greek yogurt ingredients. We chose a vanilla protein powder for this recipe to add some more sweet, vanilla flavor. Whip Up this Shamrock Shake

Whip up a tasty and healthy shamrock shake this st. patrick's day!

Quickly whip up our family-friendly, green treat to celebrate this fun holiday! All you have to do is combine all of the ingredients (except for the topping) in a blender and blend until smooth. Add a little bit of water or extra ice cubes, if needed, to get to your desired consistency. We like it COLD. Pour it into two separate glasses and add a dollop of coconut whipped cream. Feel free to place a cherry on top to complete that classic shake feel, and enjoy!
