Celebrate fall with a DIY Pumpkin Spice Latte!
Crunchy leaves and brisk, Autumn breezes signify the beginning of something. What might that be, you ask? Pumpkin spice season, of course! While there are tons of pumpkin flavored foods and recipes out there, one clearly stands out above the rest. You know it’s officially Fall when the pumpkin spice latte becomes available at your local coffee shop!
Coffee Shop Vs. Homemade
While these craveable, creamy lattes might taste i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e, they unfortunately can wreak havoc on your diet if enjoyed too often. Popular takeout lattes are filled with fat, sugar, and calories but deliver very little nutrition. Our homemade latte has the same great pumpkin flavor you love, but is made with coconut sugar and almond milk, making it a guilt-free, seasonal indulgence.
Our recipe takes about 10 minutes to prepare, and comes in at just over 150 calories per 12-ounce serving. Compare this to the same size pumpkin spice latte that you’d get from the coffee shop down the street, and you’ll notice quite a difference! The store-bought option contains twice that, coming in at 300 calories per 12-ounce serving.
How Much Sugar?!
What’s more is the 12-ounce pumpkin spice latte from the coffee shop contains a whopping 39 grams of sugar. For reference at just how crazy that is, note that the AHA recommends a daily intake of no more than 25 grams of sugar for women and 36 grams for men. The store bought brand contains WAY too much sugar if you ask me! On the contrary, our recipe contains only 13 grams of sugar per 12-ounce serving, which is a third of the amount you’d get from the coffee shop PSL.
