This makes a wonderful addition to your get-back-on-track meal plan!
There are certain ingredients that are known for their “fat fighting” properties and this Flush the Fat Away Detox salad is full of them! Whenever you’re trying to lose weight, filling your diet with healthy, whole foods is a great way to slash calories while boosting nutrients. An added benefit of this superfood-rich salad is that it tastes amazing, too! There are really no downsides here; good for you and tastes good!
Let’s Talk Nutrients
This salad give us a lot to talk about. Not only does this detox salad offer an abundance of vital nutrients, but it’s also a great way to jump start your diet (thanks to fat-fighting ingredients!) There are quite a few benefits to highlight so let’s jump into it!
Kale and spinach are two of the main ingredients in this recipe, both of which are worth mentioning. Both of these leafy greens are called superfoods for multiple reasons, but when it comes to fat loss, they are particularly helpful. Why? Because they’re both very low in calories yet extremely filling, due to their fiber content, which helps to fight off hunger! Also, both kale and spinach contain loads of health-boosting nutrients like vitamin A, phosphorus and B vitamins like folate. But, paired, they are even better than just one green alone: kale offers more than twice the amount of vitamin C as spinach, but spinach provides more folate and vitamins A than kale does. So, put them together and you have a serious nutrition boost!
Next up are the mandarin oranges. This fruit adds tangy flavor to the dish, but it also contributes a hefty dose of insoluble fiber (more so than most other fruits!) Like most citrus, mandarin oranges contain a good does of Vitamin C, as well as Vitamins A and B.
Avocado is another superfood you will find in this salad. This fruit (yes, fruit) is a significant source of essential Omega-3 fatty acids and adds even more fiber to the mix. It’s a great food to include anytime you need to stay full and focused!
This wouldn’t qualify as a “detox salad” without the inclusion of pomegranate seeds. This ingredient offers antioxidant and diuretic properties that may assist with detoxifying the liver. Pomegranate seeds are high in fiber and also contain high levels of potassium, folate and Vitamin K, among other essential nutrients. Some studies show that this may be one of the healthiest foods for you to eat!
The final ingredient worth highlighting is pine nuts. They will add a delightful crunch to your salad, in addition to more nutrients and healthy fats. Toasting them before adding them to the salad gives them an extra flavor boost, too!
All in all, this salad offers 15 grams of “good” fats, 4 grams of fiber, and a wide range of vitamins and minerals at just over 20 calories per serving. Have we got your attention now?
